GSU GRD Web Identity & Development - Artist Statement

Building the web site for the Graphic Design Department at Georgia State University is a chance to collaborate with graphic designer, Shauna Perry. This project gives her and I the opportunity to work even more on our skills that deal with communication, compromise, and the mature and healthy sharing of ideas.

The department lacks a solid online identity with an informative source for students, potential students, and the general public. The site will provide details on the students, teachers, and the program structure and application information. We will also feature a store through etsy.com with student and faculty/staff made products. Some of the proceeds would go to the artist, while the other part will go to the department. This provides Georgia State graphic designers to showcase not only their design skills, but also their high caliber skill that graphic designers are typically unknown or undervalued for. This also gives the artist an opportunity to get their work, and their name out in the world before they enter into internships and the professional job market. Lastly, the store will bring in more web traffic and bring more attention to The Georgia State Graphic Design Program.

The site will look clean with a minimalist look and contain a limited color palette of blue, grey, and orange with a strong use of white spice. The look will be made up of sans serif type, solid iconography, radial edges, and aspects of information design. The site, as a whole, is meant to shine positive light on my portfolio, Shauna Perry’s portfolio, the graphic design program at Georgia State and it’s students, and to provide students with easy to read information regarding the program.
